Just a sample of some of the great art that resides in New Orleans cemeteries, worn and weathered over the long years. The textures are gritty and beautiful at the same time. I'm thinking about continuing this series when I travel back there.

Still can't get this place out of my head! The sights and sounds, colors and textures- there just isn't another place like it in the U.S! I find myself going over my photos again and again, just trying to relive the few short days I spent there. Every part of NOLA looks great on film!

The Hall

One of my favorite places in New Orleans is "Preservation Hall." It's this dive of a place (on purpose) but it has the best, most authentic New Orleans Jazz. It is the place to go. The musicians have such talent and are so nice-they answer questions and have no issues with anyone striking up a conversation with them. A few of the older musicians have had such a life that they have amusing stories to tell and the name dropping is a who's who of jazz. If you are a music lover at all I would have to say that this falls in top ten places you must go! Enjoy the photos!

I traveled to New Orleans this past weekend for a job and am very happy with the images I was able to come away with. I had not been there since a month before Hurricane Katrina. I was anxious to see the city and how it had survived Katrina and more recently, Gustav -in a twist of irony, I am married to a "Katrina" and the last time I was in New Orleans I photographed a Gustav(o)- Any way, the parts of the city that remain intact, or are repaired, are in fact the parts that I think of when I think NOLA... French Quarter, Downtown, the Superdome... however the the parts of the city that were most affected by the levies breaking are still in dire need of help. I can hardly comprehend what 20,000 teens might be capable of when empowered by the Holy Spirit in 2010... did I mention the job was for a large LCMS youth gathering that will be held there in the summer of 2010? Very exciting! More images to come...

No News is Good News... right?

Well, I find that it seems like a good time to start my blog posting again. Hey, it's only been a year! That's right, Rhylah is one year old today! So my excuse for not blogging is that I have been busy with a new born, an almost three year old and an ever growing, ever curious, ever challenging six (and a half) year old.

Things are going well- I changed jobs- I am now a senior photographer at a commercial and advertising studio in Southwest Michigan called JohnsonRauhoff. So this summer we up and moved the family. Things went as smooth as could be expected, and we were blown away by the blessings that accompanied our move. In this real estate market we were able to sell our house in Sheboygan in just under 4 weeks, we got a steal on our new house, and things have been going extremely well in my new position at work.

My goal is to post new photos and updates twice a week or so. If you need more updates than that, visit Katrina's blog. I hope everyone is doing well and feel free to comment.

Rhylah Sabrine was born on Oct 8, 2007 @ 7:40am. She is 9lbs15.9oz adn 21.5" long. Mom and baby are doing great! Will post more pics soon!

We had a great Mother's Day weekend! We went to Greenfield to visit all the siblings and hang out with my mom. We also got the chance to take some family photos. Here's a shot from that session. Can we "vogue" or what!

Can He Fill Daddy's Shoes?

So it's been a while... but I'm back. Katrina and I got a kick out of watching Asher try on my shoe's and try to walk in them. Pretty funny. He will try on any shoes that are lying around the house. Of course Gabe also had to get into the act when he saw what was going on.

Piazza Il Campo

We had a great night tonight in the Piazza Il Campo in Siena, Italy. This piazza is known for the horse race that is held in it twice a year, in the summer, drawing thousands of people. Tonight, we arrived at Il Campo at dusk and sipped cappuccinos while overlooking the piazza. It was a lovely evening.

Well, Kate and I had a rare weekend together. It was nice to spend so much time together. We even got to go on a date Saturday night. We hit Downtown Milwaukee and had a great night on the town! Tons O' Fun!!!

So Gabe and I got really excited about signing him up for soccer. So off we went to the store to outfit him properly! (Daddy's big on having the right equipment for the job!) We picked up some cleats, shinguards and the correct size ball for practicing. The jersey is courtesy of Grandma and Papa Staude's trip to Europe. We had fun talking about rules and what a goalie is. Gabe kept informing me that Papa already taught him how to dribble and that he was "super fast!" I tried explaining that in other countries people call it "futball" - but he seemed a bit confused by that. I guess we'll stick to the basics... Looks like he's ready to go!

Backyard Summer Fun!

Gabe and I had lots of fun swimming and playing in our backyard this evening. We splashed each other, swam in the pool and had a water fight! What a fun evening. We had a blast!

A Weekend In Door County

We all went up to Door County this past weekend to spend some time with my in-laws. We had amazing weather, not just warm and sunny but beautiful stormclouds, sunsets and rain showers. Topped it all off with an ice cream from Wilson's... Perfect!

We had a great time in St. Joseph, Michigan this weekend. It's one of our favorite places to visit. I love this picture of Kate and Asher in the chilly Lake Michigan water. The day was pretty much a wash weather-wise but then it cleared off, so we hightailed it down to the beach after dinner and had a great time swimming. I have a bunch of images of Gabe too, but I'll post those later.

Chocolate Milk Anyone?

Well, I have to work this weekend so I decided to work from home today. Of course that lasted all of 15 minutes or so... Gabe and Kate were outside doing yard work and I just couldn't take it anymore. So I helped Kate finish pulling weeds (I think they are starting to affect her mind) while Gabe made "chocolate milk" in the back of one of his toy trucks. When we were done, Gabe and I tuned up the bikes and went for a ride on the trails. When we returned home, he mentioned that he wanted to take the training wheels off of his bike so he could learn to ride "daddy's bike." I think he meant "like daddy rides." What a great day!

My wife probably wanted this image for her blog, but since I haven't posted in a while, I'm taking it! (Hey, I was doing taxes-then recovering from doing taxes-what do you want from me?) The boys were lounging this morning in the living room before I left for work. They also came with me to volleyball tonight, a first with BOTH the boys. I think the little one is hooked; he couldn't take his eyes off the game... so... two more little ones and we'll have a whole team!

WIPA Print Competition

This image just won 1st Place in the "People" category and also took "Best of Show" in the annual WIPA (Wisconsin Imaging and Photographers Association) print competition. Awards were handed out at the annual Vice-Presidents Dinner, held this year at Joey Bouna's Italian Resturant in downtown Milwaukee. Two more of my prints took third place (PJ/PR category) and honorable mention (People category).

So my wife and I had a discussion on how its possible to love another child as much as the first one, after we have been just the three of us for so long. Well, it can be done! My heart swells and my eyes tear up every time I look at him! I love my boys with all my heart and I pray that I will be the kind of father God wants me to be.
